How to Overcome Writer's Block Flip through this list of tips to find the one that matches your situation. You may find that some are helpful for more than one problem. If so, you live every day with the potential for new wisdom! #1 - Find A Writing LogThis might seem obvious, but it is often difficult to keep track of why you are struggling with particular projects. It is best to use a writing log to figure out what's going on each time a project fails and what effect your current writing habits have on your productivity. Alternatively, use a spreadsheet or planner as an exercise tracker and journal simultaneously for added convenience and utility. You can also record your progress with each assignment and/or project, the problems you faced, finishing time, and finally any learning you've taken away from the project. This is a great way to track your progress and identify areas in which you've improved. If you log your projects over a long period of time, you can also look at how your writing process has changed over time. #2 - Take A Break #3 - Revisit Your Goals If you are writing something you don't want to write, look at your goals. Do you need to change your story's plot, the main character's personality, or its genre? Has it simply become an elaborate form of procrastination, where the work it takes to start is more appealing than working with the actual writing? If you are writing something that does not match with your vision, you might be better off changing your story idea completely instead of forcing yourself to stick with it even if it doesn't match what you want. #4 - Know When To Move On Writing something that you don't want to write is a waste of time. Instead, try switching or altering your focus. Try devoting more time to other projects or activities that interest you, and focus on the one you do want to work on. #5 - Set Up A Habit Worthy of Your Attention
Your best bet for working on this writer's block is to establish a clear and structured writing habit that you can complete with practice and healthy motivation.
